Entry for July 16, 2008

today we headed for dryden about 145 km from kenora at about 9 am after our usual peanut butter and jelly sandwichs and milk, food of champions, at least that is what we heard from bob. thanks bob, they work great. last night we got real close to a couple of deer in the wmart parking lot. the plumbing problem with the shower trap seems to be fixed for the moment. the rain started again at about noon and continued all day. i counted 84 hills today! they are smaller than out west though. we met marie pictured above, she is a nurse practitioner from quebec. she is riding for diabetes. she rides with a trailer behind her carrying all her stuff, a quebec flag, a canadian flag and a banner which reads, "je roule pour le diabete". she mainly speaks french and brian and her are talking a million miles an hour in french of which i understand about 2/3rds. she knew the bicyclists who got hit in manitoba. she said the dad, who had diabetes himself, had raised thousands of dollars for diabetes research over a two year period. its a real tragedy!!! we gave her some chips, a bottle of water, and a banana then wished her well. she started in vancouver june 16th and will end in quebec after 2 months, have a great ride marie! no rv issues to report today. brian crashed and went to bed after dinner at about 830pm. i am doing our laundry. we are at the wabigoon rv campground about 30 km east of dryden and are plugged into hydro for the first time. hopefully tomorrow we make it more than half way to thunder bay about 340 clicks away.
